Overview
The Commissioner & Director of Municipal Administration is the head of the department and exercises supervision and control over the functioning of all Urban Local Bodies, except Municipal Corporations, in the state.
Powers
- Exercise supervision and control over the functioning of all Urban Local Bodies, except Municipal Corporations.
- Inspect, or Cause to Inspect, the Offices of the Municipalities
- Call for Any Record, Document, Register, or Correspondence from the Municipalities
- Issue Necessary Instructions to the Municipalities
- Recommend to the Government for Suspension of Resolutions of Municipal Council
- Recommend to the Government for Cancellation of Illegal Orders Issued by the Municipalities

- Supervision and Control over the Functioning of Municipalities
- Implementation of Various Schemes Sanctioned by the Government
- Monitoring the Collection of Taxes and Non-Taxes in Municipalities
- Monitoring the Implementation of Developmental Works in Municipalities
- Conducting Enquiries on Allegations Against Municipal Functionaries
- Providing Technical Guidance to the Municipalities
- Arranging Capacity-Building Programs for Municipal Functionaries
- Processing Proposals for Upgradation of Municipalities
- Processing Proposals for Inclusion and Exclusion of Areas in Municipalities
- Monitoring the Maintenance of Parks, Playgrounds, and Burial Grounds
- Monitoring the Implementation of Social Security Pensions
- Implementation of E-Governance in Municipalities

- Transfers and Postings of Municipal Commissioners Grade-III and IV
- Transfers and Postings of Municipal Engineers
- Transfers and Postings of Town Planning Officers
- Disciplinary Control over Municipal Staff
- Processing of Appeals Filed by Municipal Employees
